Petros Efthymiou has had a long career in journalism, politics and European institutions. He studied at the School of Philosophy of the University of Ioannina and worked as a teacher and journalist, including for To Vima, Anti and NET. He was elected to the European Parliament in 1999 and served as Minister of National Education and Religious Affairs from 2000 to 2004. He was elected three times as a Member of Parliament for Athens B, while in 2010 he became President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
